Mentor - Child - Pairs:

The Nightingale Model

This is the conclusion of an external evaluation of the Swedish Nightingale Project. It gives a good picture of what it's all about.

The aim of MentorMigration is to implement central elements of the Nightingale model in seven European countries and to disseminate best practice to a wider audience through courses and workshops .

Specific objectives:

  • adapt training program for students that will be mentors into all partner countries.
  • establish collaborative groups of schools and teacher training institutions in each partner country and to establish openess between such groups transnationally.
  • collaborate in setting up a European course in MENTORING that will meet the needs of teachers, students and administrators.

Innovative aspects:

One of the innovative aspects of the project is to create positive changes in teacher training. Experience so far show that students as a result of being mentors

  • have a better understanding of the children and a better understanding of other cultures and social groups
  • Children have got new experiences and knowledge and have seen and done things they have never done before

Friendship between child and mentor can in best lead to a better understanding and tolerance for each others different social and cultural backgrounds and hopefully lead to an increased integration, understanding and cooperation between people.
